Open/A Men's League

Revisions - April 20, 2024

Rule 4 - Addendum: No player under twenty-one (21) years of age is allowed to play in the League. Any League captain may appeal based on need and case by case to the other captains for consideration of a player under twenty-one (21) years of age to join the League.  A player's date and year of birth, their maturity, observed sportsmanship, and attitude during match play and following the match will be included in the appeal.

Rule 11 - Addendum: The new Open/A League has six (6) lines.  Team captains shall come to each match prepared with a roster of six doubles teams to play that day, numbered 1-6. There will be penalty of default during the regular season when a team is not able to field six (6) lines. The scoring for such a default will be 6-0, 6-0. The unpredictable circumstances of roster depth, work obligations, illness, injury, and summer vacation; may only allow a captain to field five or fewer lines. Any lines not filled will count as a defaulted line. During the League playoffs, teams will come to each match prepared with the full six (6) lines or be penalized with a default that is also scored 6-0, 6-0.

Rule 13 - Addendum: The score sheet record may reflect each line 1-6. As each line of a match is concluded, the captains shall record the scores at all the lines of the match. The winner of each line shall be determined by the best two out of three sets. The winner of the overall match is the team that wins four of the six lines first.  In the event the two opposing captains can negotiate a five line match, the victor is declared by winning three (3) of five (5) lines.

During the regular season, captains will record only lines won by each team. A match may conclude in a draw with a line score of three (3) to three (3).  For the purpose of scorekeeping in the regular season any tiebreaker will be recored as 7-6, not the points score by each team. If a (10) point third set breaker is played in lieu of a full third set, it may be scored with the total points from each team in the line score box. The winner of the ten (10) point tiebreaker will be recorded as a set won and the winning box checked.

In contrast, during the playoff season, the captains have agreed to play a third set ten point (10) tiebreaker in lieu of a full third set and record the score as 1 for the winner and 0 for the loser in the score box. The captains will record the wins for each line, sets, and games. In the event lines and sets are counted to be equal, the games of each set will be tallied for each line of competition. The winner of the match will be declared by the most games won. Only during the playoff season, if lines, sets, and games are counted to be equal, the captains have approved the last players from the two opposing teams who finish on court at any line will be required to play an additional ten (10) point match tiebreaker to declare the winner of the playoff competition.

For the purpose of scorekeeping in the playoffs, the points of the match breaker recrded as 1-0 by the last court playing will be counted in the event that lines, sets, and games have resulted in a draw. The MTB will break the tie and deterime the winner of the overall match. Since there is no box for a score input for a fourth set, the accumulated total points from each team's side of the ledger will be counted for the home team and the visitor team. The single or double digit numbers will be posted in the respective score boxes and the winning team marked at the bottom of the score sheet to reflect the most lines, sets, games, or points won. The lines, sets, games, and point scoring system will avoid ties on the score sheet in the playoff matches.

Rule 17 - Addendum: Women are not allowed to play in the Open/A Men's League. Women who were on a team roster in 2023 will be allowed to play. Any team may appeal based on need and case by case to the League captains to add a women to their roster. The age, thorough tennis history, current rating for the applicant, and their court attitude will be provided in the appeal.
